What that means for revision is that time spent copying formulas onto flashcards is time badly spent: what you actually need is speed at finding the right line on a sheet and confidence about which situation calls for it. A graphing calculator with statistical capabilities is expected in both sections. What the announcement does not say is how the calculator sits alongside a fully digital exam, and this page will not fill that in: your AP coordinator can. Six things to practice differently on a screen

None of these are College Board rules. They are the practical consequences of working on screen rather than on paper, and they are cheap to build into revision.

  1. Read a stem, a table and a graph without a pencil in your hand. On paper you underline as you read. Practice extracting the numbers you need into your own notes instead, because that is the motion the screen forces.
  2. Write the numbers down before you compute. nn, xˉ\bar{x}, ss, the claimed value, the confidence level. Transcription errors go up when the data are in one place and your working is in another.
  3. Type your interpretation sentences. If your conclusions are only ever spoken in your head, they take longer to produce than you think. Type them, at speed, from memory.
  4. Get used to notation without handwriting. You cannot draw a bar over an xx with a keyboard as fast as you can with a pen. Decide in advance how you will write xˉ\bar{x}, p^\hat{p}, μ\mu and σ\sigma in typed prose, and be consistent.
  5. Practice against a clock in the same posture. Ninety minutes of on-screen reading is a different kind of tiring from ninety minutes on paper.
  6. Say what you are computing before you compute it. Whatever you are calculating with, state the expression and the values going into it before you read a result off it, because bare output does not earn full credit.

The practice sets are all on screen, which makes them a reasonable rehearsal for reading in this format, and the interactives are worth an hour for the same reason.

Questions nobody can answer yet

There is a lot of confident writing about this exam online, and most of it is guessing. Here is what genuinely is not known, so you can recognize an invented answer when you meet one.

What score you will need. No administration of the redesigned exam has happened, so no score distribution exists for it. The May 2025 figures that circulate, 60.3% scoring 3 or higher with a mean of 2.92, describe the exam this one replaces, under the previous course structure. Nobody can tell you the curve on an exam that has not been sat.

How the digital format affects scores. Also unknown, and it will stay unknown until results exist.

How the app behaves. The revisions page does publish the calculator and scratch-paper arrangements above, but it says nothing about whether a timer is visible, whether there is a review screen, how you move between questions, or what happens to a question you leave. This site will not reconstruct those.

What to do with this between now and May

Short version: change how you rehearse, not what you learn.

The statistics is the statistics. Sampling distributions, conditions, confidence intervals, tests, chi-square for two-way tables and regression diagnostics are all exactly as they were, and an older explanation of any of them is still a good explanation. Then build screen time into the plan deliberately: work at least a few full sections on screen, type the conclusions, and keep the calculator sequences fast. How much of Section II is left for typing

Section II is four free-response questions in 90 minutes, each worth 10 points. If you budget 5 minutes per question for reading the stimulus and planning on screen, how long is left to type, and what is that per point?

  1. Time per question: 904=22.5\frac{90}{4} = 22.5 minutes, which is 22 minutes 30 seconds.

  2. Subtract the reading and planning budget: 22.55=17.522.5 - 5 = 17.5 minutes of writing per question.

  3. Each question is worth 10 points, so the writing budget per point is 17.510=1.75\frac{17.5}{10} = 1.75 minutes, or 1 minute 45 seconds.

  4. Turn that into a stopping rule: a part worth about 2 points gets roughly 2×1.75=3.52 \times 1.75 = 3.5 minutes of typing. If you are past 5 minutes on it, finish the sentence and move on.

  5. Check the section total: 4×22.5=904 \times 22.5 = 90 minutes, and 4×(5+17.5)=4×22.5=904 \times (5 + 17.5) = 4 \times 22.5 = 90 minutes.

  6. Sanity check the split: of the 22.5 minutes a question gets, the reading allowance is 522.5=0.222\frac{5}{22.5} = 0.222, so 22% of your free-response time goes before you write anything.
