Continuous variable
A continuous variable is a quantitative variable that can take any value within an interval, including fractions and decimals.
Continuous values can be measured to any level of precision, so between any two values there is always another possible value. For example, a runner's time of 12.47 seconds could in principle be 12.471 or 12.4713 seconds. Because exact values have probability zero, you describe a continuous variable with a density curve and find probabilities as areas under it. The total area under a density curve equals .
