Discrete variable

Discrete values can be listed one by one, and between two neighboring values there are no in-between results. For example, the number of pets a household owns can be 0, 1, or 2, but never 1.5. Counts like these are common outputs of a random variable, such as the number of successes in a binomial setting. You often describe a discrete variable with a probability for each value, where all the probabilities sum to $1$.
